Ametrine is a transparent quartz that has colors of both amethyst and citrine, and is also called amethyst-citrine.

Its crystals are made of alternating sectors of purple and yellow to orange color. Amethyst is clear quartz, with the presence of manganese makes it purple. Citrine is clear quartz and the presence of iron makes it golden yellow.

The History Ametrine

 

Ametrine wasn't available on the market till the 1970s until it was discovered in Bolivia.

 

According to a lore, a Spanish conquistador discovered the ametrine stone mine in the early 1600s where he received the land after marrying a native princess named Anahi. 

 

After that he sent a few specimens to Queen Isabella of Spain and after that the mine was lost for centuries.

 

After that, it was again rediscovered, and named after the legendary princess, whose land it once was. Now the Anahi mine produces natural amethyst, citrine and ametrine.

Ametrine is a transparent crystal which is formed of silicon dioxide and is a member of the Quartz group of minerals.
